Gitega Hills Processing Station was built in 2015 in the Nyamagabe region, near Nyumgwe Forest National Park. This station is very well equipped and is able to process over 700 tons of coffee beans per year from more than 1,200 farmers. Due to natural mutation, some coffee fruits form only one rather than two seeds. As a result, a single developing seed has more space to develop a larger and rounder bean. Peaberry only make up around 5-10% of a harvest and therefore are considered a rarity.
